David Willis

David WillisDavid works mostly in glass, in a cross-disciplinary way, taking advantage of different studio processes as necessary and engaging in the many ways it can be used. For the past decade plus he has experimented with using crushed and powdered glass as pigment in a painterly fashion, binding the glass to surfaces with clear archival polymer. It started as an experiment with realism but has moved towards non-representational and abstraction.

Upon Reflection is a series I’ve been very engaged with recently. It is kiln formed glass on fine silver on canvas with mixed media. The reflectivity of the silver and optics of the glass have the appearance of the work changing constantly as both the perspective of the viewer moves, and the quality and quantity of light shifts throughout the day and night.
