Demetra Theofanus and Dean Benson – “Where the World Melts Away”

Over a Year in the Making

This incredible new piece is finally installed and available in the gallery!

“Through the stress of the events of the last couple of years, our one place of peace was always seeing the horizon line of the ocean as the sun set over the water with the deep purples in the sky. This piece is meant to represent the vantage point of one’s eye looking out on that scene. The title “Where the World Melts Away”, expresses that moment of serenity and connection with nature, when you can forget the daily madness, even in the worst times…”

The development of the color gradient over the span of 183 individual pate de verre glass leaves, moving from top to bottom, and reflecting the transition from day to night, was an exhaustive effort by Dean and Demetra. An exceptional amount of time was devoted to creating that effect as well as to developing depth and undulation moving across the piece to impart the movement of waves and reflection on the water.

Visit the gallery to experience this extraordinary piece in person and find, in it, your own place of peace and respite.
