Artist Marc Leputa “Not in Rivers but in Drops”

Mark Leputa finds calm in a semi-nomadic art practice, with long periods of physically intense work and deep focus, followed by moments of curiosity and exploration. Testing his fortitude through the proverbial dry season, to bask in the monsoons.
Glassblowing is, in essence, an art of sculpting molten earth into expertly crafted form. To fluidly manipulate hot glass is a delicate dance requiring mastery and understanding of the material. Only time can provide this knowledge. Years of working in a kinetic, hands-on approach has readied Laputa as he purposefully bends light through the harmony of shape, optics, pattern, and negative space in his pieces.
Time, intimately devoted, paying undivided attention to every line, every curve, every cut – down to the most finite details. Building the glass up, only to later take away. Every touch to the glass is deliberate and intentional. Subtraction. Controlled erosion. Mark’s work is a celebration of the material and process. Removing. Reducing. Refining. Polishing, like water over stone for eons – Not in Rivers but in Drops.
