Adam Waimon is a sculptural glass artist focusing on blown glass and the in-depth process of engraving. Inspiration for his work is drawn from a multitude of sources with a primary focus in the natural world. His forms incorporate subtle monochromatic transparent color. This singular use of color allows the delicately engraved surface to refract and transmit light. Waimon utilizes the glass to create strong elegant forms with a minimalist approach. Multiple forms are often placed together allowing for interaction and use of negative space. While remaining diverse in his inspiration, the resulting work is cohesive and defined.
Each form goes through numerous stages to accomplish it’s final design. Initially each piece is hot sculpted into shape. Once it cools from the glassblowing process the labor intensive procedure of carving begins. Textures and intricate details are cut into the surface using diamond embedded tools. Subsequently, the entire piece is sandblasted to unify the surface. The final and most delicate step of the process requires the entire carved form to be reheated giving the piece its final surface.
Waimon is a graduate of Massachusetts College of Art, with a BFA in Glass Art. His work is included in numerous private and public collections throughout the USA and abroad.
